But of course... and not only that, Wendy would be joining us as well. We met at BTA a little before 5, put our stuff in the apt and then headed out for our evening hike.
What a treat! Just like Sirena had described in her last evening triplog; BTA took on a whole new aura. We headed thru the cactus garden on our way to Ayer Lake. We were impressed by the always impressive giant golden barrel cactus and gigantic agaves; especially one that had a huge stalk coming out of it. And then it was on to the boojum section where Wendy showed her love with a boojum that was just right for her.
The reeds around Ayer Lake were made even more golden by the sun's setting rays. We made our way up the trail as the sun continued to set casting such a wonderful glow on the Colonel's mansion with Apache Leap in the background. We explored around the trail some more enjoying the scenery in a different light as the moon started to rise. We saw a couple hawks up on a ridge and heard an owl hooting before seeing it up on another ledge.
Next it was off to the High Trail as we lightly bounced our way across the bridge and up on to the trail. The moon finally caught us hiking on this High Trail. It's a hoot at night for sure. And before you knew it, we were back at the apt and ready to go get dinner at Los Hermanos. I was looking forward to a bowl of posole. The girls decided we needed pie too so we got a piece of coconut and a piece of lemon meringue. All I can say is YUM. The coconut cream pie was some of the best I've ever eaten (coconutty and creamy light).
Sirena for letting me share your great joy at the Arboretum in the evening. It was special and even more so with some of my very favorite hiking buds! |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
