Off Bluff Spring Trail at Barks Canyon we took the "Barks Canyon Trail" following the description for Trip 12 in the new Superstition Wilderness Trails West which lead us to the flat area on the Terrapin Trail just after the climb from Bluff Spring Trail. Then when we hit the start of Needle Canyon off Terrapin we followed it with the plan to check out a water hole. We were stopped short of the water hole location due to a waterfall type drop in the canyon and since time was pressing, and I wasn't feeling 100% as I was still fighting some flu like symptoms, we opted to just climb over the hill and get back onto Terrapin and follow the typical route for the remainder of the loop. We saw what I believe was a ring-necked snake, blueish-gray with a orange ring near it's head and a red underbelly off the Peralta Trail.
Great hike! |
