A bit chilly, but TOTALLY worth the early start! The fall colors were scattered all around us. Some were still hanging onto the trees, but plenty had already fallen. We soaked up the pristine waterfall views for a while, before venturing down the creek. It is a cool feeling knowing you are standing where few people have stood before. We took a little rest back at the truck before exploring the surrounding area. We stopped at an abandoned house along the way and as we were walking up to the house I heard rustling in a tree. I figured it was just a bird or squirrel, so I didn't bother investigating. On our way out, we walked a little closer to that same tree and down jumped a coati! Coolest little animal! I saw several coatis in my travels through South America (they would walk right up to you in hopes for food) but I didn't really think they lived in AZ. I had seen pictures before, but didn't believe it until I saw one with my own two eyes. Poor Kyle left his camera in his truck while we explored the abandoned house and missed the photo op. I lost the little guy when Kyle went to fetch the zoom lens. I'll never hear the end of it. . . |
