One young lady was not feeling it today so she rested at the saddle with her boyfriend. They eventually made the descent to the the north side of the peak and got to experience some of the railing and moderately steep section of the hike. The two old men, myself and Mr. C, choose not to make the summit today either. Back injury for Mr. C and an unusual headache for me. That was disappointing for me as I really wanted to make the summit with the club. I did not, however, see a need to risk a stroke and have the kids experience that. I also had a bout with my metatarsalgia. That's some severe pain in the balls of my feet. So much for those new sole inserts. The summit will be there in April when I return for the explosion of wildflowers! I had other plans for me. A little geocaching while I waited for our hikers. The most inspiring part of the day was crossing paths with an 85 year old man who makes this climb once per year. He was from Idaho. Last year, I think it was last year, he fell on this hike and broke his leg. He was back today and made the summit. Unbelievable. I hope I am doing that in another 40 years. |
