| no partners | | I took the high school Hiking Club out for a day hike to Bluff Springs. 80% chance of rain with no rain gear. We went anyway. I was pretty concerned about the chances of one of the kids, or any of us, getting hypothermia. Thankfully it didn't happen.
The wilderness was absolutely beautiful. Hiking in and out of clouds, on-again-off-again rain, and 21 students made for an interesting experience. At the beginning of the hike, 0930, the trails were damp due to the overnight rains. By the time we reached the intersection of 235 and the Dutchman, 104, the rain had brought the water ways of the desert to life. Streams were flowing everywhere. A quick bite to eat in the rain to load the kids up on calories and we were heading back to the trail-head, 1215 hours. The return hike was a wet mess. The trails were flowing streams and the larger washes were running strong. It was a beautiful dessert sight and an experience that I am glad the students were able to enjoy. Many had never been to a place like this. We reached the parking lot at about 1430 hours. |
