03:35 - Pulled in to Jack In The Box (I was unaware, until this morning that serve heartburn even at this hour), grabbed 4 of their ever so authentic tacos and continued on.
03:50 - Whipped into Circle K for a 44 oz. Gatorade.
04:05 - Popped into Walmart to get a $10.00 bladder (seems my Camel is in a friend's car on the way to Roosevelt Lake ).
04:40 - Hit another Circle K to fill the new bladder.
04:50 - Arrived at the parking lot.
04:55 - On the trail just 10 minutes behind schedule.
I was wide awake by now and feeling energetic. I thought I would make record time today, but pretty much like the first run or worse. The air was really dirty this morning and the humidity was definitely up. It was all I could do to keep the sweat out of my eyes. The up side is that I didn't see the sun until I came over the hill, just below the peak. Nice breeze at the top. Had the phone with me, so I attempted pics through the haze. Took a fortyish minute break and headed back down. I am proud to report zero injuries this time out, which is odd considering i can injure myself on a pillow, while sleeping.
On a side note. If you look at the photoset, picture 3 shows a piece of concrete with a bunch of twisted rebar sticking out of it. There are several of these chunks laying around, just about 5 minutes from the TH. On Noverber 12th, 1975, 3 local brothers and a friend attempted to shoot the lock off of an explosives storage bunker there (There were several of these bunkers in the immediate area to supply area mines). They used armor piercing ammo which passed easily through the 2" thick, steel doors, igniting 7 tons of explosives (That's One Big Bomb!!!). I remember the incident from my early years and was surprised to see that debris left behind after all this time. |
