AZ260 over to the junction with AZ87, then down off the Rim through Strawberry and Pine to Payson. Always love heading southbound on the Beeline, with its killer views of many of our iconic mountains. Bush Highway past Saguaro Lake and over to Usery Pass, then south to the 60. East to Florence Junction, then on to Florence for lunch at Jalapenos. Nice mellow finish through Coolidge to I-10 at Picacho and on to Tucson. Home by 12:30 PM. Even ran into a brief sprinkle south of Payson near Rye. This way is similar in mileage to the conventional freeway route and takes about an extra 1 to 1.5 hours, but you bypass the sometimes stressful drive through Phoenix. |
