That way you have all the hard uphill in the middle of the hike instead of at the finish. Still pretty tough though, especially from Hamburg up to Bear Saddle (steep). The weather was nice to us, with the first thunder noted to the distant southwest as we traversed the Crest Trail between Bear Saddle and the Carr Peak Trail junction. The storm movement was toward the west, so it wouldn't be a problem. Nothing was building overhead, so we had it made heading back around Carr Peak to the campground. Skipped the side trip to Carr (I'll save it for when I return in August for my wildflower hike). On the way up Wisconsin Canyon Bobby noticed a Twin-spotted Rattlesnake. Very Looks like it had just enjoyed a meal. Later while coming around the east side of Carr Peak, we encountered a good sized Black-tailed rattler. This turned out to be an enjoyable hike on a pleasant day. Our thunderstorm fun was to be enjoyed back at camp later that evening. |
