We did the lower part of Monument Trail together, and on the following day she dropped me off at the bottom, picking me up at the top after she spent some time shopping and looking for a job as well.
Well maintained and easy to follow, I wandered the trail with towering sandstone monoliths and cliffs all around. In every direction there seemed to be something worth checking out, with just enough vegetation to contrast the redrock without making offtrail a slogfest.
Almost all of the elevation gain is at the very end where a set of switchbacks climbs the escarpment. Arriving at the top, I looked back on the grandeur of Monument Valley just a my lovely driver pulled up.
We were 100% sure we would relocate to Grand Junction when we returned to Michigan, but soon after her sister got a job and had to move to Phoenix. The scale tipped and soon we moved to Phoenix as well, followed by her brother, mother, and father. She got her family and we both got "out west". |
