I awoke Sunday morning on the summit of Mt Bigelow in a fog storm of moving clouds. I hadn't expected that. I set off into the fog from Radio Ridge on Meadow Trail a bit later to start a Wilderness Of Rocks loop. Less than a mile in, I heard several booms from approaching thunder. Minutes later I was in the storm. Heavy rain, intermittent hail, and a few close lightning hits turned me around. Back at the trailhead, the rain had stopped, but I chose to hike lower on the mountain, where I could actually see if any storms were approaching.
