The lights of the Gila Valley and Morenci reflected off partial cloud cover, while the surrounding peaks remained as star framed silhouettes. The Milky Way shone brightly above. A cool breeze blew across the mountainside. Along the way we saw scorpions, tarantulas, a centipede, Leding's Hedgehogs, and a colorful, petrified turtle. Road transitioned into trail, and we reached the end at a grassy overlook, high above the Swift Trail, where we broke out the cameras for some night photos. With the evening growing late, we headed back down, as Chad had to work the next morning and I had a long drive ahead of me. It was a fun first time hike on the Road To Nowhere, made even better by hiking with a good friend and getting to do some star photography. Good times. Thanks Chad! |
