Scott and I headed on out from the Jeep on the western side not far from the range itself thinking we got as close as we could be later saw we could have driven another road to get just a bit closer, oh well we just had to hike over an extra hill today.
The approach looked easy, go up the prominent drainage we were near, get to the ridge, and see how much spice the peak offered up top. The drainage we found was loose and full of big boulders to make for pretty good views while looking up and down. We made it up to the ridge fast and traversed the short section dodging the cholla the best we could. The top of this peak just sticks up so nice we couldn't wait to get over to it. Once we got to the final push we both kind of looked at each other and thought we knew the best way but were not sure. There is extreme exposure up here and not much room for error. I led the way hoping to not let Scott see the trail I was leaving out of the back of my pants. The steep ramp to the summit will sure make your lips pucker and reward you with another great rush once you reach the top. WOW! One of the best summit pushes I've down around here for sure. We again drank our beers, caught our breath, waited for the body to stop shaking, and took in the amazing views from up here. The summit registered offered some great entertainment and just like going up, coming back down offered another good rush and silence from the both of us. For a peak topping out at under 2000 feet, she sure is one of the best I have ever done, and now I do not have to look at it from the interstate wishing I had done it. |
