After my trek up Ibex I wanted to explore this northern part of the range before calling it a day. Again driving up Plomosa road was nice and the hard task ahead was to find the dirt road to lead me closer. After stopping at the Quinn Pass and getting a little history lesson I proceeded to find the way in. This time it was a little bit more of a challenge but there was a way to get me towards the mountain.

Surprised to see some campers on the side of the road a mile in I turned away and headed towards Plomosa BM. I found my trailhead for the day again seeing the best path to start from that would get me to the northern ridge to head on up. About a half mile in I noticed something on the ground ahead and went to investigate. A piece of metal that had no business out here rusting away, something told me to flip it up so I did. My suspicions were right, there was a little rattler taking a nap out of the wind underneath. She didn't even notice what I was doing with the camera, she didn't move, and I covered her back up and proceeded on up to the mountain.

Once on the ridge it was another cholla dodging game to be played in the heavy winds, and luckily for me the outcome was the same with nothing piercing this fragile body. I was able to gain the summit quickly as the ridge wastes no time and stopping in the wind was no fun. This summit sees a fair share of action, with a lot of write ups from winter birds coming down to enjoy our great part of the state. One write up caught my eye claiming coming up the western end almost made him meet his maker. I checked it out from above and could see a few spots that would be fun. Maybe another trek up here from that end is in the future?

Viewing the landscape from up this peak was pretty spectacular, seeing how the Plomosa morphs into the Kofa was quite something on this nice day. I was worried about the weather making views around here not worth it, but it was the opposite indeed. I couldn't have asked for better weather on a day I didn't even plan to come to this part of the state.
