| partners | | | Returned to Rhyodacite Canyon in the Goldfields to check out an arch we seen in a previous trip in the canyon. From FS10 we walked east next to the south bank of the Salt River for 1.5 miles and then turned south toward Gateway Canyon. At the lower end of Gateway Canyon we turned right into Rhyodacite Canyon and boulder hopped our way up the wash about 2 miles to a cave on the west side. The arch we wanted to photograph is above the cave,accessed from the south, so we proceeded a few hundred yards further south and then climbed up the slick rock to the arch. After photographing the arch we climbed the canyon wall to the west for a great view of Fountain Hills and downtown Phoenix in the distance. Back down to the wash and back to the truck - ice-cream back in Mesa!! |
