Arrived before dawn, no one on the trail; those tent camping near the trailhead still peacefully snoring. Not as much color as I was hoping for, but there is great jaunts up and down the creek which will give you nice creekside color scenes. After the stream dries up, the trail loses some appeal, but it's still a great hike. Some color closer to the top, oaks mostly. Remembered "pee rock" where last year when hiking from the top down, my wife convinced me, by example, that butterflies are attracted to urine (she is such a biologist). A must know for butterfly photographers!
Wish I could sit for a spell and try and catch a shot of the chickadees bounding from tree to tree, and I think Joe sent about a dozen of his gray squirrel buddies to check out the canyon for him. Alas, I am not as fast with the lens, couldn't catch even one of them!

Anyone notice a new sign on 260, maybe somewhere near the Tonto Hatchery turnoff? Sign says "Paleo Site". I don't remember that being there. Will have to check it out next time.

Lost? Hell, I ain't never been lost. But I have been a mite confused for a week or two.
