| no partners | | Carolyn H. Wolff Park, on Clay Rd., just east of the Sam Houston Parkway, is a small park between an office park and a condo complex. And it was right out the back door of the La Quinta we were staying at. So, when my wife and step-son took off to Galveston to go fishing, and I got tired of reading in our hotel room -- "A Stained White Radiance" by James Lee Burke -- I decided to check it out. Lots of very impressive oak trees. Apparently the largest trunks in Harris County. (One at 116", or almost 10 feet, around.) Rather than a park, it is more of a 3-acre oak arboreteum, with info signs explaining the various tree species. Saw another squirrel, but could not get video like I did at Rice University a few days earlier ( https://www.youtube.com/embed/ynX6Fc0I9a ... autoplay=1 ). |
