| no partners | | Only once before -- in February and March last year -- have I ever had back-to-back 45+ mile months. In December and January, I had 60+ mile months. February is a short month, one or two fewer hikes on my current schedule, but I think I can make it three in a row. So, out I went.
I travelled Hill 1833 from end-to-end, south to north. I found several more white powder piles. Then, near the high point, about 20 steep feet down, off trail, what appeared at first to be something related to the powder. Like left over junk from their event. Turned out to be an abandoned bum nest. I was surprised to see it so far off the beaten bum path (i.e. not near a major street). What at first I thought was small spiral notebooks turned out to be water damaged photographs. Many were stuck together, but they were all at least 12 years old. (I found a developer date on one.) Some were taken at the adjacent resort. Odd. I gathered up the bum nest, and began toting it down hill in the rotten gym bag turned backpack. It was surprisingly heavy, despite containing only bum clothes. Heavy enough that rather than cut my hike short and drop it in my trash can at home, I decided to drop it off at the resort's corral, then continue on my hike, instead.
On my way along Trail 100 to the NMVC, I saw three bags of dog poo. Now, I understand that if you are scum bag, you won't take responsibility for your dog and pick up after him, simply leaving the poop where it drops. I understand: You are scum. Of course, if you bag and bring it with you, you are a decent person. That I appreciate. What really gets me though is people who bother to bag it, but then leave it behind. What the hell is wrong with you!?
Of course, I saw several more piles of white powder between the resort and the NMVC. I walked a short loop through the basin, then headed back up the small canyon between the resort and Hill 1833. I erased *dozens* of more piles of white powder. What makes *you* think you are so special you are a higher priority than everyone else? you too. |
