| partners | | Josh, Joel, and I did a pay it forward trip. We invited one of the Alt Hikers and taught her to rappel. I found it a bit nerve racking but overall it went great. She was a very quick learner. It was nice having a small party as we were able to go through all the motions without it taking all day.
We split the first rap into two. I freaked out a bit on the bottom half of it because I had fallen the very first time in that section and I seemed to have not forgotten in. I didn't this time so maybe that won't happen next time.
The second rap was my favorite. There was more water than the other two times we've done it. So on the way down we got a nice shower. It was very pretty. I also really like the longer rappels as you get a chance to get in the grove of things before it's over. Since I was a bit wet at the bottom, I was glad for my jacket after that.
Midway through we looked up and saw a black cloud above us. None of us knew of any chance of rain so it was surprising and scary considering we were in a canyon. Our luck held out and the cloud moved on.
At the last rappel, we were able to stay out of the water by scampering across a pile of downfall. I wish it had been a sunnier day so I could have rappeled into the water. But there was no reason to get cold.
I think that Seven Cataracts will never get old!
Note: The time on this is a wag as I didn't run my GPS and I didn't look at the clock when we started. |
