So I decided to do a quick hike on the Ferndell Trail before heading down the mountain. Lots of aspens on this trail. It would be beautiful any time of year, not just fall. Darkness came quickly to the forest, and I completed the hike right at sunset. Arriving at the trailhead, the clouds parted on the western horizon, allowing for a spectacular sunset. I drove back to Globe after taking some sunset shots, and checked into a motel. (I'd planned on camping, but the forecast called for lots of rain that night) Had excellent Mexican food at Chalo's Restaurant that night, then it was back to the motel to study maps for the next day's hike. The next day, I hiked East Mountain, then Squaw Spring Trail, before heading back home to Safford that night. 4 hikes in 2 days: a great way to use up 2 days of vacation time ! |
