| no partners | | was going to head up to flagstaff today, but for a variety of reasons, decided not to
had to come up with plan b, so i opted for woodchute trail
had hiked this 10-15 years ago and remembered about 33% of the hike
started at the old trailhead around 10:00
comfortable temps and eventually some clouds, even a few raindrops
passed the intersection with rick tank trail and then the giant woodchute wilderness sign
ascended to the high plateau and first went to the spot that overlooks the verde valley
then followed the trail to where it descends
there it becomes indistinct and very rocky
nice clearing up there
woodchute is a big mountain
next time i would either just go to the overlook, or try to hit the actual summit
more off trail than i was interested in today
on the way down, took a cairned trail to a high point with 360 views
a nice walk through the woods
one nice section along a ridgeline offering views on both sides
saw about ten people, which surprised me |
