I hadn't taken any time to explore around Priest Lake where I was Camped and it needed some attention...I was returning to Cortez later on this Day and the following Day, my Mom and I were returning to the Valley and apparently, the Heat...Someone had turned the Furnace on while I was gone...
I did a Half Loop around the Lake, finally checking out the abandoned Cabin that you can see in previous Pics...On the way over there, I met up with a Fish Biologist and a Hydrologist and chatted with them a bit. They are doing impact studies for the State, as the State is looking into raising the Dam on Priest Lake and restoring the Lake to previous Historic Levels...This would put the Lake back on the Doorstep of the Cabin that I was getting ready to check out, thus doubling the Size of the Lake... I didn't realize it, but the Lake is not fed from the Lake Fork Creek that comes out of Trout Lake...The Water in Priest is supplied totally from several wonderful Independent Springs in the Meadow around it...I hopped around the many Creeks flowing from these Springs on my way over to the Cabin.
Before I even get to the Cabin, I realize that someone is on top of it, inspecting the Roof...I don't think he had any intention of fixing it though.... He quickly disappeared as I approached...The Cabin is a one-roomer and it was essentially bare, but it was cool to check out...I checked out the Outside a little more and found that the Roof Inspector hadn't really left...
After the Cabin, I wanted to go down to Lake Fork and Hike up it to the Flume below Trout Lake...And so I did...There is no Rock Hopping here though, like every other Creek and River in this State, it was flowing hard...I had to stay on the Bank and there isn't even an opportunity to cross...Lake Fork and Howard Fork out of Ophir, meet up and form the South Fork of the San Miguel River, which is what I Hiked along yesterday afternoon...Lots and Lots of Water...I got to the Flume area and then took a small use Trail up the Bank and to the Road and took the Road back.
Upon reaching the Meadow where Priest Lake was, I followed the Meadow back around the South Side and Hiked over to the Dam...I didn't realize it until I was taking Photos earlier, but there was another Cabin by the Dam, so I went to check it out as well...This was more of a Deluxe Cabin with Multiple Rooms...And...Solar Energy??? I don't know, you guys can tell me...
After checking out this Cabin, it was back to the Escape which I had already packed up...And then it was time to go....
Photos: Yeah...If not for the Cabins, this would be much smaller...I do apologize for all of the Photobombs...It's a lot I know, but there was so much to see and I wanted to share it with you all and still tell a Story or two...or three...or.... 12 Days of Camping/Hiking/Driving/Visiting and a lot of oohing and aahing....With 2800 Photos initially Downloaded, consider yourselves Spared with only 606 Shared....
What else can I say??? This was quite the Trip and I hope to return to everywhere I've been and see more in the Future...I could not have asked for a better Trip...It was everything I hoped for and more.... |
