| no partners | | We had planned on Hiking Fossil Springs this day. Had a few friends in the car, made the drive up there at what we thought was early, but not early enough.
It was about 8:45am and the Forest Service had already shut down the road. We chatted with the fellow for a bit and he gave us some good info. He stated that the maximum cars that they let down on the weekends is 35. He stated that when they showed up that morning to check things out there was already 47 cars at the trailhead. This isn't even counting how many may have been down at the bottom near the waterfall trail. He said we could wait, that when people started leaving they would let more in, but it was probably going to be a long wait since they were already over 35, we had to wait for it to be under 35 before they started letting people in. Sounded like waiting for 13 cars to leave was going to be a bit more than 15 minutes or so.
I only post this as a heads up that if you plan on hiking trail 18 on a weekend, it looks like an early start is required (or really late start). He said week days they don't bother counting the cars and he also said the permit system may be in effect as early as next summer (2015)
We decided not to wait and went and did See Canyon and it turned out to be a great day. |
