Problem is the easiest access is private property owned by The Navigators whatever that is (haven't bothered to google at this point. Thought maybe I could get there hiking from the NW side of GOG park. Only problem is that is the Big Horn sheep protected habitat. Hiked into the park skirting the fence and habitat no trespassing signs and basically followed a trail that ran beside the fence all the way to the top of the ridge. Only saw three people on the trail and delightfully the sound of traffic and GOG crowds in Perkins Garden disappeared quickly. Did finally get to a place where I could view said canyon and it was a big DUD! Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. The views looking down on the iconic formations in the park were great. All in all nice hike. Ran into a lethargic snake on the trail that I don't think will make it through the cold front already starting to hit the area. |
