Uncle called and said the Pikes Peak highway is closed from 12500' and not expected to be open above that for several days due to snow. It looked clear so I took off for the reservoir. Clouds were coming in behind me and when I got to the reservoir Pikes Peak was completely obscured, but it looked pretty bad from where I came so I hung out for a few minutes and it cleared up. On the way back I found a well cairned trail I had never been on and couldn't find a name after getting home. It stopped going where I wanted so I jumped off and met back up with ring the peak. Jogging down Mt. Esther I tripped and took the first fall in quite a while. I pulled a Upper Devils chasm somersault, but had so much momentum and it was so steep that I ended back on my feet and fell forward off the trail, cutting up both hands, elbow, and knee. When the pain from cleaning the wounds went away, I realized one of my wrists is going to be sore for awhile. Granite gravel is not good to fall on. |
