Frost in the shade nice temps. Did this clockwise this time and the fall colors didn't disappoint. Views were great from Dome Rock. I did accidently found a short cut going down the wrong side of dome rock ending up in the canyon I needed to get to to get back to the truck. My suggestion if you do this hike in either direction is to follow the ravine of aspen to the summit and back. This trips route is not recommended.
This is becoming one of my favorites for the variety of scenery and solitude. Without a doubt the best fall colors hike in the area. I was late for the stand of old growth aspens, but with 4 miles of aspen forest you will find some color. I tried skipping the use trails to avoid the water crossings and got a different view of the canyon which was nice. Unfortunately, with the low water levels the crossing logs and rocks were all doable except for where the trail splits at the beaver dams. Walked back last two miles with wet feet thinking this was going to cancel my afternoon festivities, but they were dry enough to allow me to go retrieve my toes off Sentinel Point in the afternoon. |
