Most of the morning was set up to get some fun for the Jeep, but I couldn't resist and really planed on doing a little side hike which took up 3.6 miles.

Drove close to Belmont Mt. from Vulture Mine Rd., parked and started on up. Hit the summit pretty easy via the eastern face, took a look over at peak 2581' to the north and thought it looked simple enough from the south. Boy did the northern side of Belmont not want to let me down easily. Sheer drop offs and jagged rock had me guess which route would be best and it ended up being the 3rd one. But I love that sometimes, especially in the cool morning when I have nothing better to do.

Finally off of Belmont I notice something in the distance, an unusually placed cairn that held no purpose, I look around and see an old tobacco can. Open it up and it is some old paper with a mining claim inside of it. Don't know how long this has been here, but pretty sweet to see.

On to peak 2581' that wasn't anything too hard, just a nice jagged ridge to get up and summit quickly. The views of the area were great from up here and I took awhile to sip my summit brew. Decided it was time to head on down before the heat comes and drive on out to the south opposite the way I came in.

The road after the Belmont Mine area is not too bad, a few short steep rocky sections and a wash that looked like it had some promising rocky sections in it to investigate. This is where I had the most fun of the day as I had to put the four wheel drive into gear for the first time today. I got the adrenaline rush I wanted if it was only a short one and found some other spots I might need to come back for with a spotter to do properly.

Out of the wash and back on the road, I head down south to civilization again and find the I-10. A part of me wanted to turn around and go back, perhaps I should have listened to this side as I really enjoy and love this area.
