Our friend wrote a hiking book and it was just recently published. In it are several hikes we've never done before. Therefore we decided this was as good as time as any to try oneo of the easy hikes!
We followed the Belmont Road hike description in "Circuit Hikes of Southern Arizona" by Robert Zimmerman. This route uses a lot of unmarked trails in Saguaro West. It was nice to see new territory we have done before. This hike gives good views of Safford/Panther Peaks, Catalinas, and Rincons. We saw petroglyphs and an old windmill. Midway through our hike we saw a small herd of deer hanging out. I also spotted a couple crested saguaros. |
