| partners | | Today I was finally able to use my Christmas 2013 ancient ruins hike recommendation gift to me from HAZ-ssk44 (Eric). Based on Eric's previous research, I was able to gain Oregon Hiker's interest for this 4104 ft butte top ruins site visit (west of Payson, AZ).. http://hikearizona.com/photo=456514 . Fortunately Larry (Oregon Hiker) was able to locate on an old 1930 topo map, a couple additional potential ruin site locations within this same East Verde River hiking area to allow us a planned full day of hiking exploration. Our posted and geocoded pic-sets with captions, and GPS Routes with key Way Points further detail our day events.
We had another fun and rewarding ancient ruins exploration day locating two out of three sites which isn't bad for finding lesser know ancient ruin sites. For me, this day hike was also a much welcomed and less demanding off-trail hiking day I needed from our previous week (9/29) "all day into the night" Blue Peak 4780 Ruins adventure. Just what the doctor ordered and I was actually back home before dark for a change! Thank you Eric and Thank you Larry
Side Note regarding my camera/photo set:
Sometimes I like to experiment with different camera "white balance" settings just to see how the pics will turnout on different cameras- On this sunny day with my little Sony (2012 CMOS release) Cyber-shot DSC-WX50, I was using the "Program Mode" with white balance set to "cloudy" as apposed to normally the "daylight" setting. Also with exposure set to between -.3 at first then later to -.7 and ISO was set to "auto". On this sunny day, I think I lost a little of the scene/terrain colors contrast with this Sony "cloudy" setting but I also had less pic shadowing to edit out (which is good). However, I probably won't plan to use this "cloudy" white balance setting again on my little Sony as this camera tends to normally brighten up pic scenes anyway (less shadowing) with its CMOS sensor. My conclusion is that on bright sunny days, the "cloudy" white balance setting seems to work better for me on my small Canon PowerShot cameras (S95 and older G10). |
