So I wanted something close and a challenge and with a 1/2 moon and an easy trail to start I snuck in this great hike. We had 12 kids & 5 Adults. Got started at the trailhead about 7 PM and were able to keep the headlamps off until we got to deep into the canyon.
Weather was nice and cool super perfect for hard hiking with a load. We made very good time until about 4 miles in where one of our newbys (first backpacking trip, didn't take suggestions very well) slipped at a stream crossing. He got pretty wet. so we lost an hour or so dealing with that changing clothes etc. Kids were getting tired and it was getting late so the going got slow. Finally made it to camp about 11:30 Kids set up camp ate and went right to sleep. With the storm coming in it was a little windy, but still slept well. Beautiful morning with the occasional very light sprinkle. Great time checking out the cabin and surrounding areas. Got off about 10 and made it back to TH just after 12, perfect timing for Twinkies, Cupcakes, Manzanita Sol, Fanta orange, Hawaiian Punch which the kids loved after a good hard 12 miles |
