| no partners | | Masochism overcame me again, and I decided to drive 30 mi to the Lost Dog Wash TH and give Sunrise a try. I did this on a full stomach, knowing it was 90 F and that only 5% of the trail would be shaded. But I didn't know a lonely trail awaited. Ran into only 8 others over the 6 miles. Six on my ascent, one on top and one on my descent. Maybe everyone's doing taxes this weekend. Views from the windy summit made it all worthwhile. Much cactus in bloom, including numerous yellow-flowered prickly pear, the first I'd seen this season. Buckhorn and hedgehog still going strong. Creosote blooms also hanging in there but the brittlebush is fast losing its charm, flowers drying up even near the summit. Masochism or not, I doubt I'll do this one again until at least autumn. So many other good trails to hike. |

Wildflowers Observation Light Poppies in higher elevations. One Desert Mariposa just below summit. |
