John and I planned on doing the Newman Peaks today and sill be back for Easter stuff. John had a work crisis and had to cancel. No wait we can go late and see how far we get . We took the Flying Focus as far as she would agree to. We had to walk the road the last .5 or .6 of a mile. We headed up and John brought his clippers and did some trimming on the way. About a third of the way up we walked past a blacktail and he slowly coiled but never spoke . We went on our way and John kept us on trail and trimmed all the way up. We were in the shade for 80% of the climb. We topped out about 9:45. Awesome views and a great workout.Pretty cool looking down at Picacho for the first time. From there we took the ridgeline over to the saddle. That was cool too. It was started to warm up and with Easter stuff we decided South Newman would have to wait for another day. We headed down and John kept us on route pretty good. About 2/3rds of the way down I turned back to water a plant and I may have let out a little scream as I saw the second Blacktail of the day. From there we mereged with the other trail and John did a little more trimming. We said goodbye to Newman, crossed the canal and headed back to the Focus. Just a quick stop for a cold drink and we were back by 2. Great hike and company . Thanks to LP for taking me, Randy's Driving route, Chumley's hiking route, Gummo's snake mojo(I guess ) and Bruce for saying Hello Newman all the years we drove by it so I would want to hike it. Happy Easter!
