I began at the trailhead I use for my Dome Mountain Loop hikes but instead of following either of the two trails up to the saddle between dome Mountain and Peak 3134, I decided to follow the main drainage. With the steep slope on each side and the thick vegetation in the drainage I expected it to be slow going, but not bog-slow... it took me 45 minutes to travel a quarter mile. Still, it was either continue or thrash back through the vegetation and use an existing trail. I'm not one to go back unless there is no other option so I continued.

Once I was over the saddle I followed a series of faint game trails for the most part until reverting to following the wash as it became more defined. Early on the vegetation growth was more than I cared for but eventually the areas which get more water flow tended to open up more.

Since I had no particular route in mind, I wandered as my interest and the terrain suited me. As the temperature rose I decided to begin looping around sooner, following a wash around just below Weeks Benchmark before turning back to the TH.

While I could have followed the Forest Road back around, I took a path that took me over every high point and down to every low point along the way. I'd seen a number of snake trails earlier but it appeared today would be a bust... no rattlesnakes.

I did however encounter four javelina in a narrow ravine. No chance for a photo though... as I was about to descend into the narrow ravine, I smelled javelina and stopped to try and locate where it(they) may be.

Looking closer, what I first thought was a dead bush was actually a javelina so I began to take out my camera. (phone camera only has 4x zoom) And that's the moment HAZ Tracks decided to squawk "Half mile split statistics" (Dang I had the volume too loud!) which was the sign for the javelina to up and run, one, two, three...
](*,)
They were gone before I could get the lens cap off. So I put it away again, only for the fourth javelina to up and run. I guess it wasn't my day for fauna photos.
But no matter, I got a good workout and enjoyed the scenery.
