From Five Tables trailhead ( it's sort of marked, sort of ghetto ) I headed up Ranger Trail 0.25mi to the western end of Los Lomitas Trail. Last nights downpour left wonderful temps and puffy clouds across the valley all day. On to the main event I was empowered with a beautiful presence of joy. Okay, it's not really an exciting trail. With the clouds it was pleasant today. 14 years and 3 months ago it was under a blanket of wildflowers. So albeit rare, opportunity does exist. Monsoon afternoons are nice too when storms are brewing.
1.1 miles right and up Kiwanis Trail. My first time witnessing a chuckwalla in a tree. Thought it was a snake at first since I've seen 'em in trees a few times. Chuckwallas do not move gracefully. This guy thud plopped down a few feet to the ground and continued eating a leaf from the tree.
2.15 miles crossed summit road and headed west on the National Trail. Telegraph was busy. Only three brave souls ventured further up and they fizzled off within a mile. Hundreds of millipedes similar to August when it's stormy. I went ahead and hit Goat Hill, 3.95 miles, so I didn't have to endure the wrath of the gecko...lol With a better understanding of the terrain below I now know the "H" structure is Las Lomitas ramada... cool beans! |
