| partners | | We spent the morning at a Arizona SciTech festival week activity at Spur Cross Conservation Area.
Kids panned for gold, made necklaces, saw Liberty Wildlife birds, made clay pottery.
I did not know that the Desert Foothills Land Trust (DFLT) existed - - it's similar to what the McDowell Sonoran Land Trust was in early 1990's. They have 680 acres scattered across 23 separate preserves. Good and bad. Makes me appreciate that the McDowell Preserve is 31,000 acres of contiguous land. For reference the Fountain Hills Preserve has 750 unique acres. I'm more and more shocked that Scottsdale was able to set aside and self-tax to protect the 31,000 acres. Largest urban preserve in the US.
After our nerdy morning - we took a picnic and hiked the "Jewel of the Creek" trail to the creek- played in the water - then back to car and home. The trail goes further than my GPS route but kids weren't up for a long hike. Will have to explore area more another time. Nice riparian area. |
