| no partners | | After another rough drive from our Hellsgate hike trailhead to Neal Tank, Tracey said I'll stay with the Jeep, you go ahead and knock yourself out! (also, take the walkie-talkie)
And so I did... ok, so I didn't knock myself out literally, but I was moving faster than any of the four previous hikes this trip. I kept up the pace until I neared the top and encountered scads of dead Century Plant stalks, just high enough off the ground to be a hazard. After tripping enough times as I stepped over them I decided the best thing was to forcefully step ON every one, break it, and walk on. Once I started doing that I could pick up the pace again.
There were enough trees at the summit that I wandered within a hundred foot radius for the best view I could get for the panorama photos. Then, having spotted what could possibly be part of another ruin wall while on the ascent, I decided to descend the northeastern slop (90 degrees left of my ascent route) to check it out. No luck... just a natural rock outcropping.
Oh well, through a herd of cattle and back to the Jeep.
