Sorry about posting so late - I'm a world-class procrastinator!

My son asked for an overnight hike when he returned from his mission. So I put these two segments (26 Hardscrabble Mesa & 25 Whiterock Mesa) together.

My two daughters drove us to where these two segments meet, and we dropped off some water for a cache. She then drove us back to the Pine Trailhead where we suited up, and headed west (south on the AZT).

But first, we had to fix a flat tire. :yuck: Because of this, we got a late start - about 10:30.

I forgot to turn on my GPS tracking, so my photos (and my son's) weren't able to be geo-located. Sorry about that.

This segment has been maintained very well. There was only a couple of spots where we couldn't follow the trail. One was in a meadow, and I just had to pause for a minute, and study the meadow, and then I could see the trail. Another was where the trail made a sudden left hand turn off the road it was following. If I didn't have the GPS, I wouldn't have noticed the change. There were no AZT carsonites or rock cairns to mark the change in direction.

The fall colors were impressive. The pictures just don't do justice to the vivid reds and oranges. They were nice to see.

Owing to the late start, and my general physical condition  , the day was a long one. We arrived at the trailhead just at sunset.

I enjoyed the time with my son, and spending time together, doing something we both enjoy. Thanks for the hike, son!
