On a recent trip to northern New Mexico, I spent two nights at motels in Santa Fe, but wanted to do a drive to see some other things in the region; some old favorites and some new. I chose the middle day (Tuesday) for this, and had hoped to motel that second night in Taos. But lodging and its cost and quality is always problematic there for me, so after much research I threw in the towel and decided to try to camp somewhere instead. I picked a good time for this as the weather was fair and whatever I did, I wasn't going to get rained out like a year ago. :D

First stop of the day was Las Vegas, where I wanted to get lunch at this great food truck (The Skillet), I discovered by way of good reviews on Trip Advisor, on a trip there by train back in June. :) I wanted to go back again thank Shawna (one of the owners) for the hospitality and ride she gave me when a furious storm hit as I was dining there in June. I was on foot then, and after riding out about 20 minutes of this storm under the tarp at their place of business (complete with hail and water pouring off the tarp onto the condiments and wind knocking things over :o ), she felt sorry for me and told me she would drive me back to the Plaza Hotel OR The Old Town Drafthouse (both not too far away). Very 8) and I chose the Drafthouse!

We had a good time talking about that crazy day! After another good meal it was off to Montezuma on Highway 65, a very scenic area famous for the Montezuma Castle and free public hot springs, right on the banks of Gallinas Creek ( I have soaked there twice, but not this trip). This is the way you go if you are headed beyond to camp at El Porvenir or hike Hermits Peak. Yes, you know I have been over this road many times. ;) Truly an old favorite! :) At the hot springs I struck up a conversation with a long time resident of the area, who had ridden up on his bike for a soak. He gave me information on some of the local history, and his love for the area was evident.

After Las Vegas and Montezuma it was time to head north on I-25 to see some new things, one of them has been on my to do list like forever.

Yes, the day was off to a great start! :D
