Hadn't been down to this old favorite yet this year, so decided it was time. I also wanted to check out things at Rucker more to the south. I don't go there much anymore due to the longer dirt road drive in (like 25 miles versus about 10 for West Turkey Creek). Took the scenic route down through Tombstone and over to US 191 at McNeal by way of Davis Road. Don't drive that one often, but you get an interesting view of the north side of the Mule Mountains. The summer storms were doing their thing and I encountered some heavy rain going north toward Elfrida mid afternoon. Since I got a late start out of Tucson, I decided to skip driving in to Rucker. That decision was finalized as I encountered the rain, knowing how prone to flash flooding a few of the stream crossings are along Whitewater Draw on the way to Rucker.

So it was on to Sycamore Campground, which is where I planned to camp anyway. There was rain over the area as I approached, but was just ending as I drove in. Everything was was wet and refreshed! :) Perfect. The stream was flowing just right and I enjoyed the sound of running water during my stay. Nobody was there except me (going on a Thursday worked fine). There were no night storms, so it was a peaceful camp. :D

The rain had cooled it down to 61 degrees when I arrived around 5, and the temperature didn't change much during the night, only dropping to a low of 57. Animal action included birds, chipmunks, and squirrels, but that was about it.

This campground is one of the best in southern Arizona. Nice layout with a running stream, plenty of tent spots, clean restroom, garbage service provided, and access to some great trails. Oh yeah, and it is free.

It was nice to finally burn that firewood I had been carrying in the truck since last November.
