| no partners | | The Supes are still capable of amazing me. I am not sure why it took me so long to get up on the ridgeline, but I finally did today and it did not disappoint. I chose an out and back to 5057 because I did not have a shuttle in place and JJ spoke highly of hitting 5057 from the state park.
Siphon Draw was dead when I went up it in the morning. I did not have any problems locating the ridgeline trail and was actually pretty impressed at how much of a trail it actually was. There are a few spots along the trail where some of the longer grasses have taken over, but they will be stomped down soon enough with the upcoming season. There were a couple of tight squeezes due to the agave and cacti winning their battles with the trail, but other than that the route is very solid and relatively easy to follow.
The ridgeline did drag on a little at times, as peak 5057 almost seemed unreachable from a first glance with the several miles of ridgeline and ups and downs between me and the peak. Nevertheless, I made it to the peak with relative ease. I did walk off on a sucker trail here and there, but those errors were usually pretty easy to correct. I signed the register, enjoyed the tremendous views from the peak and headed back. Going back the thought crossed my mind, that when doing an out and back on the ridgeline it almost seems to be up hill both ways.
A little bit of a sore knee, but it was still business as usual coming down Siphon Draw. There were a few stragglers still making it down from morning attempts presumably. However, other than the few crawling down, the trail was devoid of hikers. I did not notice the heat until about half way down Siphon Draw. There was a great breeze the entire day along the ridgeline and I was the beneficiary of several long stretches of shade. |
