Great loop hike in Chaco. After you've driven (or biked) around the 9 mile paved loop in the park and seen all the great houses, this is a nice hike to see it all from above. There's a little booklet on the backcountry hikes that is worth buying to explain all the plaques around the trail.

The elevation gain doesn't seem like much, but you go up and down tiered mesas all along the trail once you climb up the first quarter mile. Great views of the San Juan basin and perfect overhead photo ops of most of the great houses. Don't turn around at the Pueblo Bonito overlook and go back. It's very much worth it to walk along the ancient roads and to see the staircase/hand holds at the mid point of the loop.

Maybe July is a bit hot for this hike, but the crowds were minimal.
