I finally hiked the Ridgeline from Lost Dutchman State Park ending at Carney Springs on Sunday. I didn't want to handle the Flatiron descent being tired, thus the preference to go up Flatiron. My wife was the shuttle driver, without which, the day hike becomes a very long day. The Ridge portion took a lot longer than I expected ~4 hrs (Flatiron saddle at 4600 to the eastern base of 5057). 10.5 hrs with the slippery down sections killing our speed. 4.25 liters of water was just right.

I had previously hiked the Carney to 5057 route and the Siphon Draw route + 1 mile on the Ridge. I had never been on the easternmost 3 miles of the route.

There was an especially scary part of the hike approaching 5057 where we found ourselves looking at a couple of cairns ending at a 15 ft (or so) rock wall with no other cairns visible up the wall. If that wall wasn't the path, we were in deep trouble as it was nearly 3pm and no time to turn back. Fortunately, after I scaled the wall, I saw beautiful cairns up there and we were home free and completely relieved. Installing routefinder on my phone and downloading the official route was an amazing tool.

I wish I had taken a picture of that daunting wall - wasn't so hard to climb, but looked intimidating. It took us about 4 hours to complete the ridge section, mainly because I slow down a lot when going downhill.

Can anyone point me to some photos of that wall?

My pictures start at the Saddle of Flatiron - i.e., just coming out of the wash at ~4600 elevation and end after achieving the base of 5057. I have pictures of the other sections of the hike, so I only snapped those of the Ridge section.

Tom
