| no partners | | After being turned back at the 2.5 mile point on this trail about 5 weeks ago, due to heavy ice (forgot my micro-spikes) and a weather front coming in with 50 mph winds, I returned today to get to the summit, my first time on Mt. Williams. There were a lot of uncleared blow-downs starting just above the 2-mile post and continuing for the next 3/4 mile or so, necessitating a lot of "over or under" decisions. There was still some occasional snow in the upper switchbacks below the summit road, but it was soft and sporadic and never needed my micro-spikes...which I remembered to bring this time. Winds were light at the summit, maybe peaking at 10-15 mph. My fairly quick round trip time was due to the trail running on the descent, so your mileage (er, time) may vary. |
