| no partners | | I got a pretty early start at 6:20am. It was a cool 64 degrees that dropped to 60 as I ascended the mountain and clouds started to roll in. The trail stays pretty moderate until the very top, where the switchbacks start in until you hit the road that takes you to the top.
I climbed up the tower and the ranger inside let me in to see the views and talk with him for a while. He was a really nice older guy that had alot of knowledge of the history of the area. he took an interest in my GPS and we talked for a good half hour before I decided it was time to take off and try to beat some of the ratrace traffic down I-17.
On my way back, I did the side loop to Clover Spring. From there, you can continue another mile to Buckskinner Park in williams. On my back from the spring on the lower half of the loop, there was another junction that takes you back to the park, so it looks like there are some interconnecting loops in that lower area.
Didn't see anyone on the way up, but a few groups of hikers on my way down.
There are some new windmills NW of Williams in the distance that the ranger said were put in about a year ago by APS. Something about leasing out ranchers' land for them. |
