| no partners | | Got an early start to beat the thunderstorms, and I did make it back to the car without getting wet. Started at 6:30 a.m. Things along the trail are damp, green and cool! Didn't see any significant wildlife. The view from the summit was a bit hazy toward the south. Seemed like a lot of haze below Mingus Mountain, possibly smoke from a fire. There are a few wildflowers, but not as many as last year. Maybe they haven't all bloomed yet. There had been a lot of recent deadfall along the trail, old aspens and Doug firs falling, but the trail crew had obviously been in there and cleaned up the pathway.
I stopped by the ranger station after the hike to ask if the gate is closed this year to get to the Bixler Trail. (It was closed last year, and I had to walk a long way to access the trail.) The ranger told me the gate is open! Since I now have a Jeep, I can drive to the trailhead!!! |
