Since the Mazatzal range suffered major trail damage from erosion and fallout caused by the Willow fire, this trail (and others) are increasingly hard to follow. I would suggest to anyone attempting this hike to bring no less than a Mazatzal wilderness map, and/or a GPS with mapping software. The first few miles to the 6960' saddle is not very difficult at all but once you leave this area dont expect to see tree blazes (only blazed trees  ) or cairns along the way. Reaching the saddle north of bear spring is a feat in route finding as well since the near-bare mesa just above it is poorly marked. Going over the next saddle/pass just beyond the rocky cliff, pay close attention to the faint trail as it heads north-by-northeast which is where you will spot the first section of cairns that I have placed every 100 feet at the most. This trail once completed is very rewarding if you appreciate the death and rebirth of a wilderness and its continual life cycles. The road in is very good and has only a few semi-steep sections and very little rocky sections, and no potholes or washboard to speak of. I think only in the wettest rains or snow would you need a 4x4

p.s. I tried to associate this hike, but there is no description for "hell".
