There are numerous interconnecting two-tracks and dirt roads, and old country paved roads. Not a lot of single-track around here that I personally want to ride, although there are a few mountain bikers who ride the Benham Trail. I just want to explore on the bike, not get all technical. I'm getting too old for that stuff--don't want to fall.
This loop starts out by going north on Airport Road in Williams, then turning west on the first pipeline road you get to (there are two of them). Then going under the tracks via a tunnel, and getting onto FR 160, a two-track, and then heading south on FR 124, a high-speed dirt road. Then onto pavement and through the golf course community, stopping in at Cataract Lake for a rest and back to town.
Available at ranger stations is a map for ATV riders which is very helpful for mountain bikers as well. It's free. I find that I also need to use the FS map, HAZ topos and Google Earth, and just plain on-scene checking things out. The possibilities for this type of exploring within 15 miles of Williams seem almost endless. |
