| partners | | Long weekend at the Grand Canyon with Kathy and we decided to do BA-SK Loop day hike. We stayed in one of the little cabins at Bright Angel Lodge which was pretty nice especially since we started the day hike at the Bright Angel TH.
Up early and on the trail by 645 down the BA and was surprised to see quite a few people out and about...can't imagine what it would have been like at 3pm. Nice views and lighting in the canyon as the sun came up. We made our way down the BA switchbacks past the rest houses and on to Indian Gardens. Great area especially the creek section below the Gardens.
Eventually made it to the first beach at the bottom of BA trail and took some pics before heading on River Trail across the Silver Bridge and over to Bright Angel Creek. Had lunch at the creek and then went up to Phantom Ranch to check it out. Spent a few minutes looking around and tanked up on water in anticipation of the South Kaibab ascent.
On the way over to South Kaibab trail we checked out Boat Beach and nice views of the Black bridge from there. Then across the bridge and started up the SK trail. The SK doesn't mess around and just goes up which I prefer over the BA switchbacks. Took a break at Skeleton Point and talked with other hikers before continuing. Top half of SK was really cool with traverses through the red rock and finally the switchbacks on the Coconino. Made it to the top by 5pm....sweet hike definitely glad we did BA and then SK  |
