It was my first time on the South Kaibab trail and my first time going up the Bright Angel trail. There was not very much traffic on the morning hours on S Kaibab, we made down in just under 3 hours taking it easy enjoying the views. Once at the river we took a detour to Phantom Ranch where we stopped for 1.5 hrs, ate our early lunch and a couple beers, Lagunitas IPA in my case.
A little while later we started our ascent on the Bright Angel trail that had large amounts of people......it was a freaking zoo!! I imagine its like that all the time but being a free weekend there was probably even more than normal. I finished at 505PM, and was ready for large amounts of food. The potluck we planned was a success and our hydration options made it for a great time at our campsite.
