The long awaited trip to Portal to hike Silver Peak finally came together this weekend as Matt and I made our way down to Southern Arizona. Nick was absolutely right in the description, you need to see this place to believe how spectacular the landscape is in that canyon. The hike is also quite pleasant as it climbs steadily with several neat rock features to keep it interesting and great views all around. There is plenty of camping nearby, which will help ease the distance from Tucson or Phoenix if you make this an overnight trip.
