I finally convinced my group of Ingress buddies to come out on a hike with me. There are two ingress portals at the Mt. Lemmon Fire Lookout, which is a nice, short hike that will get your blood pumping.

When we arrived at the trailhead around 10:00am, there were only 2 other cars in the parking lot, a good sign that not many hikers would be on the trail. We headed out on the trail clockwise with ugly weather moving in. It was pretty windy up at the parking lot and a good portion of the hike down. About halfway to the lookout, the trees really helped buffer the wind.

The hike down is pretty easy, with a pretty good drop in elevation. We arrived at the lookout and peeked around a bit, typically the cabin and immediate vicinity is off limits, but our good fortune brought us on a day when there were several employees there. They were very kind to share some history with my teenage daughter and let me sneak down to the cool, secret lookout bench on the side to take pictures.

We shared sandwiches and chatted with the forest fellows, who informed us that there was an active rescue operation beginning there on the mountain. He mentioned there might be a lot of traffic on the road soon, so we took that as a cue to head on out. :)

The hike back got my blood pumping and I didn't really feel the wind much as it was at my back on the way up. Some of my friends took lots of time to get back up, they mentioned that it was a steep walk back. So perhaps allow for lots of time to walk back at a leisurely pace.

Not 100% sure how strong the flow of the spring was, but it is used to supply water to the lookout, so I know it is running still.

The flow from this spring is visible as you walk the trail to/from the lookout.
